In the United States a myriad of state and federal laws are aimed at ensuring that products that make it into the hands of consumers are safe. A majority of the time those laws work; however, a significant number of defective and dangerous products manage to make it into the stream of commerce every year in the U.S. Those products then cause serious, even fatal, injuries to consumers.
